Goodbye

I used to sit and stare at the flames
You flashed past me
Not a glance in my direction
Two strangers alone in this world

I brushed my hair back
And caught your eye
You blushed and acted shy
We never thought it’d go anywhere

We kept flying past the memories
Forgetting the old times
In our heads we were gods
But all we had to do was look back

And see that all we were doing was
Reliving the hurt
The history of our broken souls
Only a whisper of our past

Our love growing
Your eyes touching mine
Lips graced each other
Until we say goodbye

We crossed that line
We felt strong together
While weak apart
Our tears hurt us both

Running to the future
Forgetting the past
Never looking back
Not regretting a thing

Now I play with the flame again
I look around me and can’t find you
Once a stranger, than a lover close
Now a coffin underneath the earth

We never had any fears
We shoved the line further
Between fun and danger
You didn’t have to pay with pain

Our love was full
Eyes reflecting one another's
Lips smiling against the chaos around us
Until the night came, and we said goodbye

I look at your family
Torn like the pictures I hold in my broken hands
I look at your friends
They stare at me as if seeing you

I’m what’s left of you
The spark beneath your skin
The one you loved
The man you betrothed

My throat closes up
As tears for you shred my lungs
Now I remember the past
The one memory cursed inside my head

Holding you close to me
As your eyes faded
Your breath drained out
And when you whispered your final goodbye
